Jehangir art show makes cops blush
BY Dhaval Kulkarni
MUMBAI, August 5
It WAS meant to be an art exhibition showcasing the moral decline of society, but it only ended up leaving, the police red-faced. A police team swooped down on Jehangir Art Gallery at kala Ghoda on Saturday after an irate visitor, Pushpa Vijula, complained against the sexual theme of Tits Clits 'N' Elephant Dick, a compilation of paintings, sculptures CLAMP DOWN and installations by Sanjeev Khandekar and Vaishali Narkar.

"Vijula came to the gallery and started arguing that the display was obsceafe. We tried to reason with her, bttt to no avail." The police lodged a complaint after examining the exhibition, which ends on Sunday.

"How can anyone clamp down on creative expression? This is akin to fascism," said Khandekar. Though the show hasn't been shut, organisers are now allowing entry only to people older than 18 years. DCP (Zone 1) Brijesh Singh said, "We'll consult people from the field of art before acting. If the exhibits are obscene, then penal action will follow."
