Sanjeev Khandekar and Vaishali Narkar's exhibition of paintings,sculptures and installation under the broad heading of Tits n Cuts n Ele-phant Dick (Part I) has run aground of the moral police, with concerned citi-zen Pushpa Vijula lodging a corn-plaint at the Colaba Police Station against the artists and their exhibi-tion on the grounds of obscenity The police visited the gallery and demand-ed that the exhibition be shut down, However, the artists chose to register their protest by shrouding the 'offend-ing' works in black,

| Khandekar says, "This has been a very difficult exhibition from its very inception. Along the way Vaishali and I have had our share of concerns. So we consulted artists and friends to get their opinion on the works we had planned for the exhibition." Based on their feedback, says Khandekar, they "even rejected some complete works because we thought they were mappropriate in the context of the exhibition," |

| Co-artist Narkar says, "We find it inexplicable that the police would take such an action against us solely on the basis of a woman's opinion. They should give us the opportunity to present our side." She adds, "This is a private exhibition; it Is not outthere on the road and an individual can easily make the choice to keep away. |
