Sanjeev khandekar is a visual artist, Marathi poet and writer. He lives and works in Mumbai.

With his solo exhibition of watercolours, Rumour of the Truth (2003), held in Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi, Khandekar occasioned the arrival of his pictorial vocabulary. In 2004, his installation entitled, FLEX- The Fluid Less Sex, was on display at an international fashion show in New Delhi. The following year he exhibited two installations, "All That I Wanna Do" and "La Peau de Chagrin", at Museum Art Gallery and Pundole Art Gallery respectively. And though the exhibitions were held concurrently and addressed the plangent landscape of capitalism, Khandekar approached both the exhibitions fortified with two distinctive registers.

In mid-2006 Tits n Clits n Elephant Dick, his exhibition of paintings, sculptures and installations held at Jehangir Art Gallery, with contributions from Vaishali Narkar, became controversial when the Mumbai Police stopped its public viewing. The installation was an inquiry into the conflicting realities of market driven societies and their peculiar cultural logic.

Working simultaneously and unremittingly on several ideas and projects, Khandekar has been described as being prolific in his creative productions. He concluded the year 2006, with a solo exhibition of his painting and installations, What do I love when I love you, my God? At The Fourth Floor gallery in Mumbai. The works attempted to underline a link between shopping bulimia and religious fundamentalism, a last-ditch strategy for late capitalist, consumer societies.

In the year 2007,He had another solo exhibition,'Kegel Exercises' (Aswani Mudra) at Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai .He displayed marble inlay works, inlayed with share market ticker tape and its abstract distortions. The show also included 'Encore' audio installation.

Same year, i.e. in 2007. He had one more major show titled as 'Acquire, Merge or Collaborate..' At Ashish Balram Nagpal Galleries, Mumbai; exhibition his paintings and a sculpture. He used scanned electron micrographs (SEM) images and share market ticker tape numbers to obtain a unique motif. It is interesting to note that the show received very wide coverage from almost all the important periodicals and newspapers & television, and business channels.

One of his ambitious project to take a large installation to the rural and hinterlands of country bagan this year with its first episode titled as "Rx" opening at Sudarshan Art Gallery, Pune in June 2008.

The Bombay Art Gallery hosted a solo show titled as 'Everything you wanted to know about your bad breath, however afraid to ask Alfred Hitchcock' in August 2008.

In addition to these exhibitions Khandekar has partaken of several group and Web-based exhibitions. The recent ones include 'Mumbai' ( Gallery Art & Soul, 2007), 'KeepDrawing' show at Museum Gallery, Mumbai( Pundole Art Gallery, 2007), 'Rebel Graffiti' at Kochin,(Open Eyed Dreams Gallery, 2007),Contemporary Indian Art at Zurab Tsereteli Art Gallery,Moscow, (2007) Miniature Format show 2008,(SansTache Gallery, Mumbai), The Post Visual World, Photographic works, (Priyashri Gallery Mumbai, 2008), & Keep drawing, (Gallery Espass, New Delhi,2008).Tihar Jail Project, Delhi (2009), & Spectrum, curated by Saryu Doshi at Abudhabi Art fair (2009)

He inaugurated his literary interventions when he edited Sankalp (1982). A collection of essays by social activists in Maharashtra, Sankalp was awarded the Marathi Sahitya Parishad award. His second book, the novel Ashant Parva (Season of Unrest, 1992), is considered a milestone in Marathi literature and concerns itself with the construction of a politically sensitive self in post-industrial India.

Kavita (Granthali, 1990) a collection of his early poetry and Search Engine (Granthali, 2004) garnered praise from all quarter with several reputed critics stating that Khandekar's idiolect and imagery had inaugurated a new subgenre. These collections have been followed by three volumes of poetry - All that I Wanna Do(Abhida Nantar, 2005), His two books,viz. collection of recent poetry 'Smiles'(2007) and 'Mutatis Mutandis'(2008) translation of selected poems in English by abhay Sardesai and Nandita Wagle is published by ‘Abidhanantar & Poetrywala in FEB 2008. Poetry in watercolours, his new book titled as '1,2.3,..Happy Galexy.'(2007).is a book of water colour paintings will be published by 'Abhidanantar' and 'Sanshyaaspad Tippne' a selection of new poems is published by 'Granthali', a readers movement this year. Khandekar has also written articles on environmental issues, landscaping and tropical flora & fauna in various dailies and magazines.

He writes on art & culture columns in 'Economic Times' periodically for last one year. From 1990-1995, he edited the magazine Sujan, for an NGO Yuvashakti Pratishthan.

He has written several articles in various Marathi and some of the English Newspapers & Journals on issues addressing his concerns on art, literature and politics.
